Machida, Kashiwa and Kashima lead J.League unbeaten
FC Machida Zelvia, Kashiwa Reysol and Kashima Antlers had each won their opening three matches of the 2026-27 J.League season, leaving the trio level on nine points heading into Week 4. Machida led the standings on goal difference after scoring 12 goals and conceding two for a plus-10 mark. Kashiwa occupied second with nine goals scored and four allowed, while Kashima’s nine goals and six conceded left them third. The results made the three clubs the division’s remaining unbeaten sides, although the campaign had reached only its fourth round of fixtures in a 38-match season.
Go Kuroda’s Machida side had established the strongest early attacking and defensive record, while Ricardo Rodriguez’s Kashiwa had also made an impressive start. Kashima entered the race as the reigning 2025 J.League champions, adding significance to their perfect opening run. The next test came on Saturday, August 29, when Machida travelled to face Mito Hollyhock, Kashiwa hosted Shimizu S-Pulse, and Kashima continued its bid to remain among the early pace-setters.
