Kashiwa and Kyoto begin Asian campaigns against Korean opposition
Kashiwa Reysol and Kyoto Sanga are set to open their AFC Champions League Elite campaigns against South Korean opponents on Tuesday. Kashiwa were scheduled to visit Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, while Kyoto were due to face Daejeon Hana Citizen. The opening round also featured Pohang Steelers against Beijing Guoan, according to reports on the competition. The tournament has 32 teams divided into eastern and western regional league tables, with the top eight in each section advancing to the round of 16.
The fixtures arrive as Japanese clubs look to build on the country’s growing influence in the eastern half of Asian football.
