Seko makes immediate impact after joining Urawa from Stoke

Tatsuki Seko has made an immediate impression since leaving Stoke City for Urawa Red Dragons in August. The 28-year-old midfielder, who spent two years in the Championship, helped transform Urawa’s fortunes after the club opened its campaign with consecutive defeats. He contributed to four wins after coming into the team before providing an assist in Sunday’s narrow 2-1 defeat by Fagiano Okayama. Seko’s performances have drawn attention from football media in Tokyo, with Football Channel describing him as “a saviour” for a side that had endured a difficult start to the season.

Seko reportedly chose to return to Japan after Stoke decided to release him because of team circumstances, despite interest from several J League clubs. Urawa ultimately secured his signature, and his ability to draw opponents towards him, evade pressure and link midfield with the attack has quickly become central to the team’s improvement. His latest assist came in defeat, but the result also showed that Urawa remain short of consistency after their strong response to the opening setbacks. Seko’s continued influence will be an important factor as the club seeks to build on its mid-season recovery and challenge for better results.
