Amorim begins Milan reign with victory at Torino
Ruben Amorim made a winning start as AC Milan manager when his side beat Torino 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino on Sunday. Milan dominated much of the match but needed two quick-fire second-half goals to establish control. Adrien Rabiot, introduced in the 57th minute, created the opener for 19-year-old Alphadjo Cisse in the 64th minute before scoring himself moments later from Samuel Chukwueze’s cross. Che Adams pulled one back for Torino with a brilliant volley in stoppage time, but Milan held on to begin their Serie A campaign with three points.
Rabiot’s immediate influence was the clearest positive for Amorim, particularly after Milan had struggled to break down a well-organised Torino side during the opening hour. Luka Modric also came off the bench alongside the France midfielder, helping to change the rhythm of the contest. Cisse’s goal gave the teenage debutant an important early milestone, while summer signing Goncalo Ramos failed to score despite troubling the home defence. Torino were playing their first competitive match under former Milan player Ignazio Abate, but the late pressure was not enough to deny the visitors.
Bremer header gives Juventus narrow win at Frosinone
Juventus opened their Serie A campaign with a 1-0 victory over newly promoted Frosinone at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on Sunday. Gleison Bremer scored the decisive goal in the 22nd minute, moving in front of goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani to head Francisco Conceição’s teasing delivery into the net. Frosinone created greater pressure as the match progressed, but Juventus maintained their lead to give Luciano Spalletti three points in his first league fixture in charge. The result represented a difficult return to the top flight for Frosinone against one of Italy’s most decorated clubs.
Juventus had opportunities to make the result more comfortable, with Randal Kolo Muani volleying over and Danilo Kalulu hitting the post before the interval. Conceição also missed a close-range chance early in the second half, leaving the visitors vulnerable to a late response. Frosinone eventually failed to find an equaliser, while Bremer’s contribution proved sufficient for Juventus to start with a clean sheet and an away win. The performance was controlled for long periods, but the narrow margin ensured the closing stages remained uncomfortable for Spalletti’s side.
Vicario suffers late injury scare on Juventus debut
Guglielmo Vicario was forced off in stoppage time of Juventus’s 1-0 win at Frosinone on Sunday, leaving his Serie A debut with what early indications suggested was cramp. The goalkeeper went down at the start of added time and called for medical attention before Mattia Perin hurriedly replaced him for the closing moments. Vicario had otherwise enjoyed a comfortable first appearance after joining Juventus from Tottenham on loan with an option to buy. Gleison Bremer’s 22nd-minute header secured the victory, meaning the late change did not affect the result.
The initial assessment offered some encouragement, although the precise extent of the problem remained subject to further evaluation. Perin’s emergency appearance could prove significant because he was reportedly heading for Palermo, while Juventus were also said to be considering Wolfsburg goalkeeper Kamil Grabara as a longer-term deputy. Vicario’s fitness therefore became an immediate squad concern after an otherwise positive opening night. Juventus will want clarity quickly, with the new goalkeeper expected to establish himself following his move from the Premier League.
Ghedjemis misses Frosinone squad amid transfer reports
Fares Ghedjemis was absent from the Frosinone squad for Sunday’s home match against Juventus amid reports of transfer interest from Besiktas and Monaco. The Algeria international was not included among the substitutes after Turkish reports claimed he had agreed personal terms with Besiktas and was pressuring Frosinone to approve a move. Italian reports cited offers of about €10 million from both clubs. Frosinone had previously been reported to value the winger at between €18m and €20m, having rejected approaches from Celtic and Rangers while preparing for their return to Serie A.
The situation placed Ghedjemis’s future firmly at the centre of Frosinone’s opening-day team news. The club had reportedly been determined to retain him following promotion, but the reported offers and the player’s alleged stance complicated that position as the transfer window entered its final phase. His absence removed one attacking option for a side facing an especially demanding fixture against Juventus. Any eventual agreement would leave Frosinone needing to balance its desire to compete in Serie A with the financial appeal of a sizeable sale.
