Roma beat Torino to preserve perfect Serie A record
Roma maintained their perfect start to the Serie A season with a 2-0 victory at Torino on Monday. Inter recover from two goals down to defeat Udinese
Inter overturned an early two-goal deficit to beat Udinese 5-3 at San Siro and preserve their 100 per cent Serie A record. James Abankwah headed Udinese in front after nine minutes, while Jurgen Ekkelenkamp doubled the visitors’ advantage seven minutes later. Cristian Chivu acknowledged the risks involved in Inter’s attacking approach after his team produced a second successive league comeback from 2-0 down. The champions had also recovered from that scoreline to beat Napoli in their previous Serie A match, but the repeated slow starts exposed a vulnerability alongside their considerable attacking power. Inter remained level with Roma on 12 points from four matches, setting up a significant clash between the joint leaders at the Stadio Olimpico next weekend. The victory also offered a strong response after their Champions League defeat by Real Madrid earlier this month.
Juventus suffer stoppage-time defeat at Sassuolo
Juventus lost 3-2 at Sassuolo after conceding a stoppage-time winner in a dramatic finish. Sebastiano Esposito put the hosts ahead in the 65th minute, before Edon Zhegrova equalised with six minutes of normal time remaining. Kieron Bowie restored Sassuolo’s advantage in the 89th minute, only for Zhegrova to score again in stoppage time. Adžić was on loan from Juventus, adding an especially painful element to the result for the visitors.
The defeat intensified scrutiny of Juventus’ start under Luciano Spalletti.
