Serie A Daily Report - 2026-09-29: Juventus seek €250m capital increase amid fresh losses

Juventus announced on Tuesday that they would ask shareholders to approve a capital increase of up to €250 million. The Serie A club said the share issue could be carried out in one or more tranches by the end of 2026, with the proceeds intended to strengthen its equity base, support sporting competitiveness, improve financial sustainability and potentially upgrade strategic assets including the Turin stadium. Controlling shareholder Exor, which owns approximately 65 per cent of Juventus, will support the fundraising with an immediate €60 million injection. The club reported a €66 million loss for the year ended 30 June, compared with €58.1 million previously.

The proposed fundraising underlined the financial pressure created by Juventus’s failure to qualify for this season’s Champions League. The club forecast another loss during the current financial year, although it expects a “progressive improvement” over the following two years. Juventus has already received approximately €1 billion from investors over the past seven years, making the latest proposal another major effort to reinforce the balance sheet while maintaining ambitions on the pitch. Shareholder approval remains necessary before the board can proceed, but Exor’s backing gives the plan significant support as the club works to stabilise its finances and sporting operation.

Daniele Orsato acknowledged on Tuesday that Serie A referees had made too many clear errors this season. Speaking to the press in Lissone, the referees’ designator said the officials were “behind because of the errors committed” and should have performed better, citing mistakes caused by superficiality and poor positioning. His comments followed criticism that referees were awarding too few fouls and that VAR had been too passive. Orsato rejected the idea of a personal refereeing doctrine, saying there was “no Orsato protocol or line of mine”, while insisting that fouls should be given and VAR should intervene for clear and obvious errors.

Orsato said the speed of the game had produced side effects that officials had expected, although he conceded that the errors already recorded were worse than anticipated. He maintained that players were responding commendably and that referees were giving their maximum, while also saying the wider approach reflected what football wanted. The admission places greater focus on consistency in the coming rounds, particularly over foul decisions and the threshold for VAR intervention. Officials are attempting to preserve a faster, more attacking style without allowing mistakes in positioning or concentration to undermine confidence in the competition’s refereeing standards.

Como defender Jacobo Ramón said on Tuesday that he was focused on the Italian club rather than a possible return to Real Madrid. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Spain Under-21 international said: “I’m doing great at Como. We’ve just started the season, and I’m not thinking about anything else.” Ramón joined Como from Real Madrid in 2025 and has established himself in Serie A, where he has also been part of the club’s Champions League campaign. His comments came as attention increased around his development and the possibility of Madrid seeking to bring him back in the future.

Ramón also described his move to Italy as an important personal change, saying Como had forced him to leave his comfort zone and mature. He praised Cesc Fabregas’s influence and argued that the coach’s approach was not a disruptive force in Italian football, while recognising that it would not please everyone. Reports have meanwhile linked Arsenal and Chelsea with interest in the 21-year-old, with Real Madrid reportedly holding a €9 million re-signing option and a share of his rights. For now, Ramón’s stated priority is regular football and continuing Como’s progress.
